Halogen manages public consultation for sensitive Midlands’ development

Leading property communications specialist Halogen has recently led a joint public consultation project for Bovis Homes and David Wilson Homes to promote the development of a 62-hectare residential led site in Edwalton on the outskirts of Nottingham

The tailored consultation programme for the mixed-use sustainable urban extension was developed by Halogen to communicate the key elements and benefits of the draft proposals to the local community and overcome historic concerns about the loss of green space

Proposals were presented on behalf of the developers via a public exhibition and website, using the local media and direct mail to reach local residents and relevant stakeholder groups in the area surrounding the site. The public exhibition, held over a three-day period in February 2008, provided local residents with the opportunity to view plans and provide comments on the proposals via feedback cards and the website. Over 900 people attended the exhibition and Halogen received almost 400 feedback cards

The proposals for the sustainable urban extension include 1,200 houses to help deliver national and regional housing targets. The proposals also include the creation of an additional, fully accessible 33-hectare community park adjacent to the site

Kelly Bradshaw, Account Director at Halogen, comments: “Communication is vital across every aspect of a potential development. It is important to give people the opportunity to have their say on proposals and ensure this is fed back to the development team

“The Edwalton urban extension is a sensitive project and we were able to design a public consultation exercise to meet the needs of the developers, the local authority and the general public."

A planning application has now been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council and Halogen will continue to provide Bovis Homes and David Wilson Homes with on-going media relations and consultation support
